Comic convention regular Matt Slay was there and shared a drink (or two) with us and swapped stories until almost 4 AM at an impromptu Drink-n-Draw in the hotel lobby. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Matt’s artwork before, make sure you to stop by his DeviantArt page.

One of the visitors to our late night gathering was Squirrel Girl, in her award winning costume, pictured here with Mark.

Our new friend author Janine Spendlove competed for the Iron Woman award by tending a table, making connections, and being on every panel the con offered (okay not every one, but it was pretty damn close.) She even took time to pose for a picture with Stephen. Be sure to stop by her website www.waroftheseasons.com and learn about her new book.

Stephen, however, suffered a nerdgasm when bestselling author Timothy Zahn came to the table to ask for a drawing of Mara Jade, the character Zahn created in his influential Star Wars novel Heir to the Empire.

Stephen tried to not giggle like a fanboy (but failed). Rumor has it, the charming Ms. Spendlove had to help Stephen speak for the first few minutes after Mr. Zahn left the table.

Mr. Zahn was most gracious and took this picture with the final piece of art (and even let Stephen in as well).

A great weekend  and a huge applause for the SheVaCon staff. One of the most relaxing and enjoyable cons that the Iconograph group has attended.

Happy New Year! (+ or – a few weeks)

We’re gearing up for another exciting year here at Iconograph. Another year of conventions – including a few that we’ve never been to before), some brand new prints, and some news about some upcoming projects – but we’re not ready to tell you about that just yet.

We’re starting off this year’s convention season with a one day show. Our fourth appearance at a Virginia Comicon, held at CROWNE PLAZA WEST (6531 West Broad Street Richmond, VA 23230) in Richmond, VA on Sunday, January 15st, 2012.

Register here for FREE tickets (to all 5 shows that are being held this year), or bring 5 bucks to the door (to benefit the Hero Initiative).

We’ll have prints for sale, and as always we’ll be doing commissions – any character you like. In fact, if you want something a bit more intricate and plan on being at the show, we’re always taking advanced commission orders. Just drop us a note at Commissions with whatever flavor you’d like.

If you’re coming to the show, even if you’re not in a buying mood, swing by and say hi anyway.

The first edit for the competition was less than satisfying (hey, you got 48 hours to do EVERYTHING – it’s NEVER gonna be what you want except a lot of fun), so this is the re-edit and audio mix with perfectly fitting music by Douglas Bischoff.

The first is here in our hometown of Richmond Va. October 29-30. This is the second 2-day show for the Virginia Comicon after last year’s huge success.

The second is a brand new one for us in Raleigh NC. and it looks to be a blast. It’s November 5-6, and has some great talent lined up.

We are working on some new art – originals and prints. We are taking commissions and if you want to hit us up for something special in advance of the show, just drop us an email.

This will conclude an exciting year for Iconograph hitting the comic conventions. 2011 has been our biggest and best at the cons (thank you all), and in 2012 we are planning on adding a few more appearances. We are working on even more new original drawings, prints and (finally…we hope) our first complete comic book, illustrated by yours truly and written by Stephen Burks.

Please join us in BOTH Richmond and Raleigh…they are only 2 hours apart for crying out loud. I travel further to find the porn I’m looking for…okay, I don’t actually travel anywhere for porn – that’s what the internet is for!

On top of that excitement, we debuted 4 new prints and 2 new variants in Charlotte this year  (we’ll get some scans on the website shortly). We had a great time catching up with some people we hadn’t seen in awhile and meeting new people. John Tyler Christopher, Tom Fleming, Chris Flick, Terry Huddleston, and a whole bunch of others.

We also attended to the VA Comicon for the first time and it was an excellent one-day show. Since it was in our hometown we were able spend the day at the convention without all of the hassle of travel and hotels. It was really great to meet some of the local fans and artists.

The entire Iconograph Gang*  will be there signing prints, books, DVDs and doing commissions. We have some new prints for Charlotte as well as some new original art. If the price is right we might even sell you Lew (he’s the “easiest” of all of us).
